Safety tips when purchasing diamonds online

Buying diamonds online can be a bit scurry.
Whether you are buying a pink diamond, brown diamond or a yellow diamond you got to wonder..: What if the diamond won’t look like in the picture? What if it will be small? Is this firm even legit?
Here is a list of things/tips to check and do prior to your online diamond purchase process:

1. Make sure that the seller is a known diamond dealer/trader/manufacturer.
   Look for a certificate of membership to a known diamond burse etc.
   In the internet days this are not a hard things to check.
   
   Peled Diamonds is a member of the Natural Colored Diamonds Association (NCDIA) and the Israeli Diamonds Industry (IDI).
   
   
2. Don’t pay a dealer you don’t know with a check / wire transfer.
   When writing these lines the safest way to pay (that I know) is to pay with PayPal.
   When you pay with PayPal / Credit cards you are partially protected by them.
   
   
3. Since it is hard to know from a picture how the diamond will look in real life, make sure that you can return the diamond within 14 days and get refunded.
   
   
4. Purchase diamonds with a certificate from a known Gemological institute (GIA, IGI, EGL, etc.). This certificate states all of the important features of the diamond in question. More importantly, it was made by an objective & impartial expert - don’t let anyone else tell you what this diamond is worth. It’s true that diamonds with certificates are usually more expensive, but it can save you a great deal of money and embarrassment (read our article on How to read a Colored Diamond certificate - coming soon...).
