Kay Jewelers was founded in 1916 by Sol and Edmund Kaufmann from Reading Pennsylvania and has grown rapidly to over 900 stores today. Even though Kays Jewelers stores are spread all over the USA, it is mainly concentrated on the east coast. The first and original store was opened on the corner of their father's furniture store. At the beginning, Kay jewelers sold much more than just jewelry. You could have found in their store musical jewelry boxes, eyeglasses, electric razors, silverware sets and even kitchen appliances. Besides the 900 Kay Jewelers stores, Kay offers their diamond jewelry on their website www.kay.com.
Kay jewelers have a very well built website with a HUGE amount of products on display at very affordable prices. The URL is www.kay.com (even though www.kayjewelers.com would get you there as well). On their website you can find anything from diamond engagement rings and wedding rings to diamond earrings and even watches.
In order to compare the prices we look on two very similar diamonds, almost an exact match. Kay Jewelers offers a build your ring service (design a ring) in which you select a specific diamond which makes it easy to compare diamond prices. We randomly selected a round diamond from our stock - a GIA 1.01 carat round diamond, with H color and SI1 clarity, excellent polish and very good symmetry and no fluorescence (our #ID-211403). A classic round diamond for a diamond engagement ring. The cheapest similar diamond in Kays Jewelers online store (same exact parameters as stated above) costs $8,599.99. We sell this diamond for $6,787 ($6,516 via money transfer). $2,000 dollars less - almost 25% off. But what about smaller and more affordable diamonds? Since emerald cut diamonds are gaining popularity we thought we should compare them. We took the following diamond from Kay Jewelers - a GIA 0.70 carat emerald cut diamond, F color and SI1 clarity very good polish and symmetry with no fluorescence. This diamond is priced on their site at $4,499.99. We don't have an exact match so we took a MUCH better graded diamond - a GIA 0.70 carat emerald cut diamond, F color and VVS1 clarity (much better clarity grading), excellent polish, very good symmetry and no fluorescence. This diamond is priced on our site at $2,124 (for money transfer) - less than HALF the price - 50% off.
The trend of fancy colored diamonds in general and chocolate diamonds especially didn't surpass Kay Jewelers. Kay are offering a wide collection of Le Vian's chocolate diamond rings, chocolate diamond pendants and even earrings as well as the Shades of Australia collection. Both collections are characterized with a combination of small brown chocolate diamonds and champagne diamonds mounted side by side with white colorless diamonds and precious gems. Unfortunately, these are the only chocolate diamonds they offer (as far as we know) - what we feel is missing is the possibility of a chocolate diamond as a center piece, as the main diamond.
Here is one of the Kay Jewelers classic commercials:
According to the Kays Jewelers website, Kay Jewelers is one of the largest corporate sponsors of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, dedicated to helping children all over the world overcome cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
As stated above, Kays Jewelers website offers very affordable prices. However, Peled Diamonds is a registered diamond dealer and manufacturer. As such, we offer wholesale prices on a wide variety of certified loose diamonds, colored diamonds and a collection of diamond jewelry such as diamond tennis bracelets and ready made diamond rings at wholesale prices. In fact, when you look at the Kay Jewelers collection, we can't compete with their prices on the lower end. When the prices of the diamonds and diamond rings exceed $1,000 dollar and are what makes most of the price of the diamond engagement ring - we have a lot to offer as you can see in the price comparison table above. We offer high quality diamonds at wholesale prices, and our diamonds are GIA certified diamonds (needless to say that you get the GIA certificate with the diamond). The GIA - Gemological Institute of America, is the highest authority in diamond grading - and they are strict. This way, our customers know exactly what they are buying and have no need to rely on what we tell them - even though we would be more than happy to consult you 24/7.
PeledDiamonds.com is very different in essence than Kay Jewelers. Unlike Kay Jewelers which is a retailer, Peled Diamonds is a diamond manufacturer, importer and exporter. We do not have retail stores. In fact, we simply opened our doors to the end customers and now, through our website, you can buy directly from a registered diamond dealer and manufacturer GIA certified loose diamonds and colored diamonds at wholesale prices. By buying from us, you have the ability to create and design your own ring, engagement ring or any other piece of diamond jewelry in just about any color, size and budget.
Still not sure? Feel free to compare our prices with any diamond retailer / dealer. In any case, we are here to provide FREE diamond consultation and support, Use us!
