Natural Fancy Blue Diamonds

Natural blue diamonds are among the most desired and rare diamonds in the world. Even within the natural colored diamonds "rarity scale", the blue diamond is inferior only to red.

The blue diamond is a favorite within the colored diamond collectors. Due to facts mentioned above, the price of blue diamonds is extremely high.

Blue diamonds are mined mainly in the Cullinan mine near Pretoria.

Blue Diamonds - Shape, Size and Color

Like all colored diamonds, blue diamonds come in all shapes (round, princess cut, cushion cut, asscher cut, heart, etc.) and sizes. Whether you are looking for a pear shaped blue diamond for a blue diamond pendent or a round brilliant for a classic blue diamond ring or blue diamond earrings - it is out there waiting for you.

Since the blue diamond is extremely rare, the price of the blue diamond is comprised mainly by its color. The blue diamond color intensity varies from fancy light blue to fancy blue and to the extremely rare deep blue and dark blue, intense blue and vivid blue.

Blue Diamonds Color Combinations

Common color combinations seen for natural Blue Diamonds are green blue diamond and gray blue diamond. Note that there is a big difference in value whether it’s a gray blue diamond or a blue gray diamond. The meaning of a gray blue diamond is that it is a blue diamond with a tone of gray color in it. The other, a blue gray diamond is a gray diamond with a tone of blue color in it (even though a significant tone).

Hope Diamond - One of a Kind Blue Diamond

One of the most famous diamonds in the world. The Hope Diamond is a large 45.52 carats (approx 9.10 grams!!!) deep blue diamond. It is classified as a Type 2b diamond (which is even more rare). Besides for it's rare beauty and size, the hope diamond is also known for the curse surrounding him. Its GIA grading states it to be a 45.52 carats, cushion, fancy deep grayish blue with a remarkable VS1 clarity.

Heart of Eternity Blue Diamond

The Heart of Eternity is a 27 carats vivid blue diamond.
It is in the De Beers Millennium Jewels Collection.

Both Blue Diamonds mentioned above are considered priceless.
Nevertheless, if we want to imagine how much they worth, in 2009 a 7 carats blue diamond was sold for 9.5 million dollars.
